Iyeoka wins at 2006 New England Urban Music Awards!

Iyeoka and Francis Phan win big at the 2006 NE UMA's

On the evening of April 15th, the Berklee Perfomance Arts Center hosted the inagural New England Urban Music Awards, which recognizes the excellence of individuals in the New England area music scene. Congratulations to Iyeoka for winning the inaugural award for Best Female Spoken Word Artist. Francis Phan also won Best Producer of the Year. Iyeoka put her stamp on the event by her chilling performance of Blink of An Eye while being accompanied by Jeff Robinson on saxophone. Thanks to all of Iyeoka's fans who nominated her for the award. It's amazing and gratifying to be recognized with this honor after years of hard work but the best is still yet to come!

wow girl, you are the bomba... the best... the bright and sparkling oversized scoop of vanilla ice cream being suddenly seduced by the steamy breath of hot fudge pushing up against your body and making your senses explode into little peanuty bits that cascaded all around you and all served up by this six-footed winking teenager behind the counter...and this was that night you were sitting by yourself in front of the tv and feeling all old and unattractive and spinsterly, so much so that with a sigh you heaved yourself up from the well-worn dent that memorialized the outline of your flat ass in the middle of the ratty blue sofa you'd placed awkwardly in front of the tv as the centerpiece of your drab and dingy apartment, and then you brushed the potato chip crumbs off the front of stretched-out, old-ass tanktop you were wearing and didn't care about the grease stains left by the crumbs, which were quite sizable since you had been shovelling those generic-branded Ruffle-lookalikes into your mouth quite half-heartedly and without attention to aim, and then you thought: "damn," for an instant, but only an instant, before you began sleepwalking to the corner store which strangely enough had an ice cream counter, and you didn't even look up as you asked for an ice cream sundae, and dug out a couple of crumpled dollars, and only when you'd smoothed them (not really smooth but somewhat), then you cast your dulled eyes upward... it was then that you noticed the dimpled smile of the high school hunk bending his arm to scoop your order into a cup with the greatest of ease, his newly broadened shoulders twisting slightly with effort...he must have been a new hire--so young, and yet he had the gall to look back up at you with the confident calm of a grown man and a small crinkle in the corners of his eyes... an expression that playfully shoved you backward into the dark consciousness of your psyche, where you stumbled off balance a few steps through several layers of self-criticism that had built up over the years, and then collided quite unexpectedly with the idea of your appeal... and you felt a little silly being flirted with by a boy, but blushed despite yourself... and he put an extra cherry on top and jutted his lips out a little when he brushed your hand to take your money... you half-smiled and turned around without taking the change, walking out the door with an accentuated swing in your hips and lightness to your step... anyway... yeah. so-- that awakening-- that's kinda how you do, yokes... keep up the good work. love ya much!
